DACS is pleased to announce it is now a member organisation of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA).
Ensuring visual artists are remunerated for reproductions of their published work
DACS receives collective licensing revenue from the
Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) on an annual basis which we distribute as royalties to visual artists through
our Payback service.
The CLA sells licences to businesses, education institutions and public sector organisations which allow them to legally photocopy and scan publications containing copyright-protected content.
By becoming a member and working with the CLA, we can continue to ensure that a share of this revenue goes back to our members, so they are fairly remunerated when their published images are reproduced in this way.
Gilane Tawadros, Chief Executive, DACS, said: “Becoming a member of the CLA is an important step in ensuring that the thousands of individual artists and their representatives who are members of DACS can generate revenues from the collective licensing of their works. Working collaboratively with the CLA, we want to ensure that visual rights holders can benefit from new opportunities which remunerate them fairly for their creative works.”
Mat Pfleger, CEO, Copyright Licensing Agency, said: “We are delighted to welcome DACS and PICSEL as new members of CLA. We are pleased to now be working with two organisations that represent visual artists, demonstrating our commitment to the protection of creative works and to the fair remuneration of copyright owners.”
We join other CLA members PICSEL, Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) and the Publishers Licensing Society (PLS), who also receive a share of CLA revenue to distribute to their members.
