Painters have just under a month to enter the National Portrait Gallery’s prestigious BP Portrait Award 2014, which closes on Monday 3 February.

    Recognising today's outstanding portrait painters

The BP Portrait Award is a prestigious international art competition aimed at encouraging artists to focus on and develop portraiture in their work.

It is a significant platform for contemporary portrait painters and is known to lead to further commissions for artists as a result of the exhibition’s considerable exposure.

All artists aged over 18, based anywhere in the world, can enter.

Entrants will be in the running to win a £30,000 cash prize along with a commission worth £5,000. The runners up will receive £10,000 and £8,000 respectively, and a fourth winner aged 18 to 35 years old will be selected for the £7,000 BP Young Artist Award

The BP Portrait Award 2014 exhibition will take place at the National Portrait Gallery in London from 26 June to 21 September 2014, followed by a tour to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens.

In 2014 the Portrait Award enters its 35th year and also celebrates 25 years of BP’s support.
