Richard Riley, The Estate of John Craxton

John Craxton (1922-2009) is a key figure in post-war painting. Influenced by William Blake, Samuel Palmer, Graham Sutherland, and European artists such as Picasso and Miro, he settled in Crete and continued to develop his Romantic pastoral themes in sunburst images inspired by Byzantine mosaics. Richard Riley manages his estate.

“Copyright was very important to John,” he says. "When I die these royalties will go to the family trust which helps musicians. That will be the real legacy. It will help people who just need that bit of extra money. Even a few hundred pounds can make a big difference to them."




Susanna Heron, artist and joint heir and representative of the estate of Patrick Heron

Susanna has gained international recognition for her collaborations with architects and large-scale site specific works. She was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1999. She is one of the daughters of the artist Patrick Heron (1920-1999), and owns the joint copyright to his works.

Her sister Katharine Heron heard about DACS in the early nineties and advised her father to join. They both receive royalties for his work and Susanna is a member in her own right too.

“As we do not currently have any help with the estate administration, working with DACS means that a record of publications is maintained and they act as a first point of contact when others wish to license Patrick Heron’s images. Most importantly it enables me to maintain quality control over reproductions.”
