Dear [insert your MP's name here] MP,

As one of your constituents, I am writing to ask you to sign Early Day Motion 1110: Artist’s Resale Right, which calls on the Government to continue to support the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR) Regulations in the UK.

As part of the 10th Anniversary of the Artist’s Resale Right Regulations, it calls on MPs to recognise and value the contribution visual artists make to the UK creative industries and the economy. It calls on MPs to continue to uphold artists’ copyright and intellectual property rights so that they can continue to be remunerated fairly for their creative works. Lastly it calls on Government to lead on efforts to secure an international treaty for Artist's Resale Right to ensure a fair balance of trade.

February 2016 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Artist's Resale Right in the UK –
one of the most important pieces of legislation introduced in modern times supporting the livelihoods of visual artists. To date nearly £47 million has been distributed to almost 4,000 artists and artists’ estates by DACS, a visual artists rights’ management organisation.

ARR provides a modest royalty for artists and artists’ estates whenever their work is resold by an auctioneer, dealer or gallery for €1,000 or more. Supporting both emerging and established artists and estates, ARR enables artists to have a share in the increasing value of their work and allows artists’ estates to continue to care for an artist’s legacy.

As my representative in Parliament, I urge you to add your signature to this Early Day Motion 1110, to show the UK it supports and values its artists and artists’ estates and their contribution to the UK’s cultural heritage.

Please find below for your convenience the text of the Early Day Motion 1110. For more information on the Artist’s Resale Right and the 10th Anniversary, please visit: http://bit.ly/10yearsARR

Thank you for your support,

Yours sincerely,
