DACS artists Yinka Shonibare MBE and Tim Shaw have been elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in a new round of appointments to its membership of contemporary artists.
Yinka Shonibare MBE works with a variety of mediums, drawing on his West African heritage to explore constructions of identity in our post-colonial, globalised world. Well-known artworks include Nelson's Ship in a Bottle, commissioned for London Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth and Wind Sculpture 1, commissioned for Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Tim Shaw works across different mediums to produce both single entities and all encompassing, multisensory installations that utilise sight, sound and smell. Artworks include The Rites of Dionysos, commissioned for the Eden Project, and Casting a Dark Democracy, which responded to the Iraq War.
We represent both artists for Copyright Licensing. They are joined by Neil Jeffries, who has also been elected as a Royal Academician.
The prestigious role recognises their talent and artistic contribution in the field of sculpture.
As Royal Academicians of sculpture, they join a body of 80 members, known as ‘RAs,’ who govern the Royal Academy and shape its direction. Other members include Tracey Emin and David Hockney.
