We are delighted to announce that Ryan Gander is the recipient of the DACS Annual Award 2019. Join us on Wednesday 25 September where he will be exploring Perspectives, a talk which considers our inability to change our minds.
Providing a platform for artists
In a world fragmented by conflicting ideologies, artists offer unique insights, disrupting our assumptions and inspiring new ways of seeing. DACS seeks to provide artists with a platform via our Annual Award.
Ryan Gander is the second artist to receive DACS’ Annual Award. At our inaugural event last year, the award went to Turner-Prize nominated artist Anthea Hamilton, who took the audience on a contemplative journey about Looking.

About Ryan Gander
Ryan Gander has established an international reputation through artworks that materialise in many different forms – from sculpture to film, writing, graphic design, installation, performance and more besides.
Through associative thought processes that connect the everyday and the esoteric, the overlooked and the commonplace, Gander’s work involves a questioning of language and knowledge, as well as a reinvention of both the modes of appearance and the creation of an artwork.

An animatronic white mouse partially visible, emerging from a hole broken through the gallery wall. With the voice of the artist's 9 year old daughter, the mouse struggles and stutters as it attempts to deliver a speech, not quite knowing how to begin or what exactly to say.
