She says: “I am delighted to have received the Metro Imaging prize as it will enable me to focus on new work and get it printed for any opportunities to show work that may arise.”

Wales-based Rob Lewis, who writes and illustrates children’s picture books, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to win a voucher for art materials - always extremely useful! I never win anything!”

Dee Sunshine, who has provided artworks for the covers of a number of books and periodicals, said: "It is good to know that once I get home to Scotland after my travels in Asia I will have a £100 voucher for art materials awaiting me because I will most liklely be very skint.  A big thank you to DACS!"

Still not claimed your Payback royalties?

Visual artists with work in UK books and magazines or on TV still have just over one month to apply online for their share of £4 million in Payback royalties.

The royalties provide a welcome source of income for all types of visual artist. Rob Lewis, who has been claiming royalties for 10 years, says “as anyone who is an illustrator knows, income can be a bit precarious, which is where Payback comes in.”

Hilary Knox said: “It is great to receive acknowledgement for your work, no matter how much you receive in monetary value.”

The online application deadline is 6 October 2014. If you prefer to apply using our paper form, the deadline is 17 September.
