Caricaturists Femi Adetunji and Tayo Fatunla, and fine artists Claire Weetman and Michelle Wren are the winners of DACS' recent Payback competition, in which we asked claimants to recommend Payback to a friend for the chance to win vouchers from Metro Imaging or Jackson’s Art Supplies.
The winners
Caricaturist
Femi Adetunji was recommended he sign up for
Payback royalties by friend and fellow caricaturist,
Tayo Fatunla. Both have had their works published in a range of print publications and each has won £150 worth of vouchers to spend at
Metro Imaging.
Femi describes finding out about Payback as “a blessing”. On winning the competition, he said: “'I feel elated - a lucky one amongst a sea of talented professionals”. Seasoned Payback claimant Tayo Fatunla said: “After years of trying, I was able to convince my friend Femi Adetunji to submit his Payback claim and that there is no catch. Glad he did. Winning him over is as good as winning the Metro Imaging vouchers. Thank you DACS.”
St Helens-based fine artist
Michelle Wren was recommended Payback by local artist
Claire Weetman. They have each won £150 worth of vouchers to spend at
Jackson’s Art Supplies. Michelle said: “This is great news and never happens to me! Thank you so much.”
The pair met when Claire invited Michelle to lead a workshop for the Family Art Club, which she runs as part of the Arts Council-funded
Heart of Glass project in St Helens. Claire noticed that Michelle’s work had featured on the cover of a-n magazine and recommended she sign up to Payback as her work had also been published in a-n and she has been receiving royalties for the reproduction ever since.
Discussing the importance of the scheme, Claire said: “As a self-employed artist you take your income from a range of sources. Licensing of images isn't something that I get any other income from apart from Payback. All of the different income strands of an artist's career are important.”

Find out more about Payback
Payback is an annual royalty scheme for visual artists and their estates. Each year artists and estates can claim royalties for reproductions of their work in UK books, magazines and TV programmes.
The scheme re-opens for application next summer in 2015. We are aiming to pay all those who have successfully applied for their 2014 royalties just in time for Christmas.
