We congratulate artist Mat Collishaw, who has been awarded the 16th Pino Pascali Prize. He will be exhibiting at the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation in Bari, Italy until 15 September 2013.
The Pino Pascali Prize is awarded annually to an international artist or influential figure in the art world. Previous winners include artists Jake and Dinos Chapman in 2010.
This year, Young British Artist Mat Collishaw has been awarded the 16th edition of the prize.
His work explores death, decay and the sublime and well-known pieces include Bullet Hole, exhibited at the YBAs’ legendary 1989 ‘Freeze’ show and Magic Lantern commissioned by the V&A in 2011.
The prize jury comprised of Rosalba Branà, Director of the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation, and art critics Lorenzo Madaro and Antonello Tolve. Explaining their choice, they said:
"Mat Collishaw's visual imagery is multifaceted: his look investigates art history and observes reality, representing it with an emphasis often characterized by dramatic and allegorical undertones. The core of his research is an interest in quotation, which results in a journey across the territories of the visual culture of our time, thus dealing with universal and imperishable themes, such as beauty, violence and death"
The prize results in a solo exhibition of Mat Collishaw’s work at the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation in Bari, running until 15 September and featuring key pieces from 1998-2012.

The Pino Pascali Prize was established in 1969 in honour of Pino Pascali, a significant post-war artist and leading figure in the Italian Arte Povera movement.
