In memory of Susan Hiller

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of artist Susan Hiller. Following a short illness, Hiller passed away at the age of 78 earlier this week. We extend our deepest condolences to her loving family and friends.

As a founding member of DACS, Hiller supported our mission to safeguard artists and their livelihoods. She remained a strong advocate for artists' rights throughout her career.

Hiller began her creative career in London in the early 1970s, when she first became known for her innovative artistic practice. She then went on to become one of the most influential artists of her generation. She cited Minimalism, Fluxus, aspects of Surrealism and her studies in anthropology as major influences on her work; her practice was considered a precursor to post-Conceptual British art.

With a practice spanning over 40 years, her artworks can be found internationally in both private and public collections. Her career has been recognised by exhibitions in some of the world’s biggest galleries and institutions, including MoMA, Tate, ICA and the Centre Pompidou.

Susan Hiller made a significant impact on contemporary British art, and will be missed.
