Edinburgh Art Festival presents one month of contemporary art from 1 August

For one month from Thursday 1 August, Edinburgh Art Festival will present a plethora of contemporary art exhibitions and activities featuring emerging and established visual artists from Scotland, the UK and the world beyond.

2013 sees the 10th edition of Edinburgh Art Festival, and will bring together over 45 exhibitions in over 30 spaces, as well as presenting its most ambitious commissions programme to date.

As comedy and theatre fans flock to the Scottish capital’s teeming playhouses, the festival opens the doors of the city’s leading galleries, museums and artist-run spaces to engage thousands of visitors in cutting-edge contemporary art.

    Exhibition highlights include:

    • Peter Doig at the Scottish National Gallery
    • Jeremy Deller’s collaborations with Alan Kane at Jupiter Artland
    • From Death to Death and Other Small Tales at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, featuring work by Marina Abramović, Louise Bourgeois and Sarah Lucas
    • Gabriel Orozco at The Fruitmarket Gallery
    • Gregor Schneider at Summerhall

To celebrate its 10th edition, 10 new public artworks have also been commissioned. Entitled Parley, the commissions programme wil celebrate art which generates and depends on dialogue for its realisation.

New artworks include a site specific installation for the New Calton Burial Ground watchtower by Christine Borland and Brody Condon, as well as the first publicly sited sculpture by emerging artist Sara Barker.

A full programme of talks and workshops have been curated to complement the artistic programme.

Edinburgh Art Festival runs from 1 August to 1 September 2013. Read the full programme.

All the artists listed above receive royalties from DACS either through our PaybackArtist’s Resale Right or Copyright Licensing services.

Are you a visual artist? Is your work published in UK books, magazines or featured on TV? You might be able to claim Payback royalties from 1 August.
