DACS wins Researcher-in-Residence award

DACS is delighted to have won a Researcher-in-Residence award from Creativeworks London. The award will support doctoral researcher, Tania Phipps-Rufus, to work with DACS to research the potential of intellectual property law for artists in the digital age.

    What is the Researcher-in-Residence award?

Creativeworks London’s Researcher-in-Residence award, funded by the Arts, Humanities and Research Council, was set up to bring together the capital’s creative industries and research community. The programme matches arts organisations, like DACS, with arts and humanities researchers to extend the reach and impact of our work and support the exchange of knowledge.

We are delighted to be one of seven arts organisations selected for the fourth and final round of awards. Other awardees include the ICA, Ben Uri Gallery and London Symphony Orchestra.

Tania Phipps-Rufus to work with DACS

From March 2015, Tania Phipps-Rufus, a researcher at Goldsmiths University, will be working with DACS for a period of three to four months.

Tania is currently researching intellectual property (IP) and its relationship to the work of designers and creators in the creative economy. She is a postgraduate researcher at CREATe, the centre for copyright and new business models in the creative economy, and a doctoral candidate at the University of Bristol.

During her residency Tania will research various areas of DACS, including how our work facilitates the use of visual artists’ work in sectors of the creative industries, such as fashion. She will also conduct research on intellectual property and new licensing models for the digital age, taking into account the contemporary use of visual artworks on digital platforms.

She said: "I am delighted to be working with DACS and to be researching into the impact that IP law - particularly copyright - has for the lives of creators."

We'll be reporting on the progress of Tania's residency - keep an eye on our website, and Twitter and Facebook channels for updates.
