DACS is hosting a room at the forthcoming Art Party Conference on Saturday 23 November 2013 at The Spa, Scarborough. We’ll be premiering exclusive new films, interviewing artists and presenting open discussion on the value of art.
DACS' programme at the Art Party
The Art Party, billed as the “antidote to all other conferences”, is being led by the artist Bob and Roberta Smith and
Crescent Arts.
Bringing together a range of influential artists and organisations from across the arts and education sector, it will provide a forum for discussion on the future of art and art education. It will also be a chance to celebrate and enjoy art, with a range of art installations, performances and activities planned.
We’re delighted to be involved and will be taking over the Music Room at
The Spa, from 2pm. We'll be presenting:
2pm-6pm: Film screenings
We’ll be premiering a series of exclusive interviews with the artists Uriel Orlow, Zineb Sedira, Hew Locke, Jordan Baseman, Yinka Shonibare MBE (RA) and Richard Parry.
Filmed in their studios, each artist discusses their practice, how they came to be artists, and the development of their work in relationship to other artists, past, present and emerging.
6.30pm-8.05pm: Values Overheard and Underrated
Our
Chief Executive, Gilane Tawadros, will be interviewing live on stage the following artists:
Haroon Mirza, 6.30pm-6.50pm
A renowned artist who tests the interplay of sound, light waves and electric current to create immersive installations and performances. He's had recent solo exhibitions at The Hepworth, Wakefield and MIMA, Middlesbrough.
Janette Parris, 6.55pm-7.15pm
Parris experiments with popular formats such as cartoon animation and musical theatre to create playful, narrative-driven works exploring ‘the everyday’. She is currently involved in
Connect10, a Culture24 project pairing artists with cultural venues across the UK for Museums at Night 2014.
Cornelia Parker, 7.20pm-7.40pm
Internationally-celebrated sculptor and installation artist who explores the formalisation of phenomena beyond our control, often transforming the volatile into something quiet and contemplative. She was recently the subject of a new publication,
Cornelia Parker, by Iwona Blazwick (2013, Thames & Hudson).
John Smith, 7.45pm-8.05pm
A renowned film and video artist who subverts the boundaries between documentary and fiction, representation and abstraction. He has been awarded prizes at international film festivals around the world and is currently exhibiting in the group show,
Constellations at
Tate Liverpool.
Gilane will be talking to each artist about their work and influences, whilst exploring the role of the visual artist and the idea of value and productivity.
These interviews form part of our ongoing research into developing new and innovative services for artists, helping them to sustain their practice and livelihood. Footage from the interviews will be available to watch online shortly after the event.
