We catch up with prolific illustrator, Alice Tait, who receives Payback royalties for her illustrations in UK books and magazines.
Can you tell us a bit about your work?
I am a freelance illustrator, working across books, magazines, and the odd café wall! I have also created my own print range, which I sell in independent shops and online, and have licensed out various images to product merchandisers, greetings cards, and wall art companies.
I wanted to be an illustrator because I wanted to draw for a living, and I still try to draw from life where ever possible. I’ve been going about 10 years.
How long have you been claiming Payback royalties for?
A friend put me onto Payback about five years ago and I was thrilled!
What did you do with last year’s Payback royalty?
It came in just before Christmas, perfect!
What advice would you give to anyone signing up for Payback for the first time?
I would advise any one to just go for it. There truly are no snags. It takes a bit of effort to dig up all of the ISBN numbers and job details but it really is worth it.
Do you have any interesting projects coming up that we should know about?
I have just created a new design for Waitrose that will run across some of their walls in-store as a mural. I’m also looking forward to seeing a new children’s book cover come out for Random House Vintage, called
The Bell Family. My
‘Alice Tait London’ range is in lots of shops across the capital, from Harrod’s to Waterstones, and my wall art range is due to be launched in John Lewis before Christmas, so it’s all go.
