DACS has published its Annual Review 2012, showing a record year for the organisation, with more visual artists and estates benefiting from our royalties than ever before.
2012 a record year for DACS
In 2012, a record £9.7 million in royalties were paid to over 17,000 visual artists and artists’ estates.
These royalties were collected by DACS and distributed through our three rights management services as follows:
-
Payback - £3.8 million paid to 15,000 visual artists and estates
In addition to collecting and paying artist royalties, last year saw us continue to safeguard the rights of visual artists by campaigning on their behalf, particularly in relation to the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act and proposals to extend UK copyright exceptions.
We also invested in new products and services for artists and estates, including launching a new website and online system for our Payback service.
Reflecting on the successful year, our Chief Executive, Gilane Tawadros, says:
“As DACS approaches its 30th anniversary, we are well-placed to achieve our vision to be the leading organisation representing visual artists and estates, protecting their rights through expert lobbying and delivering innovative, high-quality services and increasing revenues for a growing number of artists and artists’ estates year on year.”
