Paintings by DACS artists Patrick Caulfield, John Hoyland and Ben Nicholson have been voted for by the public to appear on thousands of billboards across the UK for Art Everywhere. They join a line-up of 25 artworks which will flood the UK’s streets from 21 July to 31 August 2014.
DACS licenses Art Everywhere artworks to support artists
The
25 artworks were chosen from a longlist of 70 works housed in public collections across the UK, compiled by a panel of curators and art experts including our Chief Executive, Gilane Tawadros. Over 38,000 people voted for their favourite works via Facebook.
We worked with
Art Everywhere to
license works for various elements of the project, such as the limited edition merchandise produced to encourage donations to the project. The licensing fees are paid back to artists and artist estates, supporting their livelihoods, practice and legacy.
The works we licensed include paintings by Patrick Caulfield, John Hoyland and Ben Nicholson, which will appear in the final exhibition after being voted in by the public.
The exhibition will also include pieces by our
Artist’s Resale Right members David Hockney, Gilbert & George and Gillian Wearing.
Art on 30,000 billboards across the UK
Promising to be even bigger than last year,
Art Everywhere will see art flood the UK's streets for 6 weeks from 21 July.
The artworks will be exhibited on 30,000 billboards and outdoor sites, including at underground stations, bus stops, in black cabs and shopping centres. Films of the exhibition will also be screened at Vue cinemas across the country.
Sir Anthony Gormley, who has been commissioned to create a new digital artwork especially for the exhibition, said:
“Works in public collections form an important part of our collective visual memory, marking a particular place, time and person. It is great that these works are being celebrated and shared in this way."
