Artangel launch new opportunity for artists

Open is a £1 million Artangel initiative in alliance with BBC Radio 4 for new site-specific commissions across the UK.

Open is a call for ground-breaking site-specific proposals. An invitation to artists working in all media and anywhere in the UK to come forward with bold projects that will transform the UK's cultural landscape.

Previous Open calls have led to some of the most iconic projects of the past decade in Britain: Michael Landy's Break Down; Jeremy Deller's Turner Prize winning The Battle of Orgreave; Roger Hiorn's Seizure; and Clio Barnard's award-winning The Arbor.

Open invites artists to share with Artangel and BBC Radio 4 their ideas for projects of real scale and ambition in relation to particular places - ideas which might otherwise never see the light of day.

12 Open Platform presentations on how to apply will be given by Artangel Co-directors James Lingwood and Michael Morris, joined by artists including Barnard, Deller, Hiorns and Landy.

The Open Platforms will start with London's Conway Hall on Monday 28 January and then take place in Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, NewcastleGateshead, Nottingham, Glasgow and Suffolk. Places are free but must be booked in advance. For Conway Hall please book here and for all other presentations please contact each venue as listed on Artangel's website.

Open proposals are encouraged from visual artists, filmmakers, writers, artists working in the digital space, composers, theatre makers, producers and choreographers.

The closing date for Open submissions is Monday 29 April 2013.
