An early Christmas present for Payback claimants

This year a record 16,700 visual artists and estates claimed a share of over £4 million of Payback royalties through DACS, with many claimants receiving their payment just in time for Christmas.

2013 a successful year for Payback

Payback claimant and artist, Emilia Telese says, “All artists should claim Payback! If you ever have your work published, you're in!”

Over the past year, we have been working on improvements to our online systems resulting in a quicker and easier claim process. These enhancements have seen claimants receive their royalties much earlier than in previous years.

Daniel Rudd, Artists Services Manager says, “More artists are claiming than ever before and it's great to see so many new claimants benefiting from Payback for the first time. We're now looking ahead to 2014 to see how we can make next year's campaign reach even more artists.”

Our annual Payback service is open to visual artists and the beneficiaries of deceased artists for all types of published artwork, from fine art and photography to design and illustration.

The royalties come from licences which cover ‘secondary reproductions’ of artwork, such as a photocopy of an artwork in a magazine or the repeat broadcast of a TV programme in which an artwork features.

If your work has ever appeared in a UK book, magazine or TV programme, you’re probably eligible for Payback royalties.

Payback 2014 will launch next summer.
