Artist's Resale Right in detail

Are you eligible?

  • Are you the beneficiary or heir of an artist whose works are resold through galleries, auction houses or art dealers?
  • Does the work sell for €1,000 or more?
  • Was the artist a UK national, or a national of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA)?

If you answered yes to all three questions, you may be entitled to resale royalties.

How it works

  1. 1. Sign up to our Artist's Resale Right service

You can apply online or complete a form and return it to us.

  2. 2. We monitor the UK art market for resales of the artist's work

As the beneficiary or heir of the artist, you may be entitled to a royalty if the sale price is €1,000 or more.

  3. 3. We collect these royalties on a quarterly basis

We ask art dealers, auctioneers and other art market professionals to send us details of their sales. If the work has been resold for €1,000 or more and provided all qualifying criteria are met, we will collect a royalty on your behalf.

  4. 4. You receive royalties

Once we receive a royalty payment, we will transfer the money owed to you within 30 days. As a not-for-profit organisation, we retain 15% of any royalty we collect on your behalf to cover our costs.
