An online panel discussion with Hayley Newman, Richard Parry and Morgan Quaintance
Hayley Newman is an artist with a passion for humour, subjectivity, documentary practices and fiction. In 2011 she declared herself self-appointed artist-in-residence in the City of London and wrote the novella Common, drawing together the social, economic and ecological crises. She often works in collaboration, most recently with The Gluts who took their musical Café Carbon to the Copenhagen Climate Summit, and art/activist group Liberate Tate. She is a tutor on the doctoral programme at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL and is represented by Matt’s Gallery.
Morgan Quaintance, writer, musician, broadcaster and curator
Morgan Quaintance is a London-based writer, musician, broadcaster and curator. Born in South London, he is a regular contributor to
Art Monthly, and has written for
The Guardian,
The Wire,
Art Review,
Frieze,
Rhizome.org, and a number of curatorial sites and blogs. He is a contributing editor for
E-Flux’s online publishing portal
Art Agenda, is a founding member of the curatorial collective DAM PROJECTS, and was the 2015/16 curatorial fellow at Cubitt Gallery, London. As a presenter he has worked with the BBC, Channel Four, Artfund, the Royal Opera House, National Theatre and Roundhouse, and is also the producer of Studio Visit, a monthly hour-long interviews-based programme, broadcast on Resonance 104.4 FM, featuring international contemporary artists as guests.
Richard Parry, Artist
Richard Parry. Born Hull, 1983. Museum exhibitions include The Astrup Fearnley Museum (Europe, Europe, 2014), The Institute of Social Hypocrisy (Satellite Show, 2012) and The National Gallery of Zimbabwe (ART ZIMBABWE, 2010). Land Art initiatives include locations in East Africa, Europe and South America. Collaborators include Gareth Nyandoro (Round-Tripping, 2015), Merlin Carpenter (Ballard in Narnia, 2011) and Oscar Murillo (Offset Critical High Ground, 2016). Collected works include the holdings of Goldsmiths College, The National Art Library and The New Dome.

Director of Business Development at DACS. Before joining DACS in 2014 he worked extensively in Korea and South East Asia as Commissioner for emerging art fairs; Art Gwangju and G-Seoul 13 and as Associate Director of SUUM; Commissioning a number of projects in collaboration with Samsung Electronics including the media art focused award, The Samsung Art+ Prize and IOC commissions. He is Chair of the International Curators Forum and previously Director of the iconic A Foundation in London and Liverpool, and Head of Visual Arts, South East Arts Council England. He has curated numerous group and solo exhibitions and contributed to publications, catalogues and magazines including most recently a chapter in the acclaimed 2017 book ‘Artists: Rethinking the Blockchain’. He is also author of the novels, Bubble Entendre and Come.
